Sometimes the world is just too much. Pain, suffering, hate, fear… It weighs heavily and I find myself holding my breath. Do you ever experience that?
As I drove through the countryside the other night it felt like I was able to breathe deeply again. The Lord reminded me that His goodness is also everywhere. It can be seen in:
The majesty of a summer’s sunset
The vast beauty of a rolling hillside
The calm in a fresh breath of air
The pleasing tug of a smile
The warmth of the sun on my skin
A sweet conversation shared with a dear friend
An ice cream cone at the end of a hot summer night
The mighty rumble of an afternoon thunderstorm
The joyful melody of crickets and bullfrogs
The graceful dance of fireflies
The Lord’s loving call as I awake to His Words in my thoughts…
All of these things and more are God’s good gifts.
The world feels very hard right now. And it is. There is much to grieve. But I am praying the Lord will move in this difficult season, for His glory and our good. I’m praying for repentance, reconciliation, and renewal. And I am looking for signs of His goodness, with praises of thanksgiving on my lips.
“For You, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.”
-Psalm 86:5
